Summer Environmental Science

Geobus Inc. is pleased to offer a brand-new opportunity for middle and high school students to explore Earth Science in an exciting new way. This eight week summer course features all of the topics present in a college-level introductory course in a transitional way, with morning lectures geared toward improving note-taking skills, and hands-on labs in the afternoons. We offer 7 field trips, three to our local American Museum of Natural History, as well as to local state and liberal arts colleges to perform laboratory activities and speak to college professors and scientists alike. This course is project based, with opportunities to tackle real-world problems and earn college credit at the end.

In this course, we will explore the interior workings of the Earth and how they manifest on Earth’s surface as earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis. We will examine Earth materials, from rocks and minerals to energy and soil. We will discover the forces that shape Earth’s surface, and how they impact our everyday lives. We will study fossils and learn how scientists learn about the past. Finally, we will explore the processes that control Earth’s climate, how climate is changing, and what it means for us in the future.
